Utility Bill (Solution)

Solution:
Below shows the average monthly temperature in 2012.

You will notice that the temperature in June is the highest in 2012, at \(28.7^\circ C\). During this month, as the temperature is hotter than the other months, people normally do the following to keep themselves cool:
  • use more electrical appliances (e.g. fans and air-conditioners)
  • use more water (e.g. drinking and showers)
Another (not as significant) reason is that June is the school holidays for most students, which results in a higher usage of electrical appliances (e.g. computers and televisions) and water at home, as compared to the other months. Also, during the June school holidays, most students do not go overseas as much as during the November and December school holidays.

All these activities contributed to a higher utility bill in June.

In fact, this trend is observed in most years too.
